For RV travelers, Cracker Barrel is a home away from home

We have never met Dan Evins, but he has been a great friend to us as we have traveled throughout states where he established Cracker Barrel restaurants ("Cracker Barrel's Dan Evins never lost his big heart", Monday, Jan 23, 2012).

After losing our home to Hurricane Andrew in 1992, we decided to travel in our motor home for a few years. A few years soon became 15 years, and we learned that there are different rules for full-time travelers. The most significant being that you can’t just exit at any exit on the interstates and find services. You soon find that you are restricted from most parking lots while towing a car behind your motor home.

That is when we became acquainted with Mr. Evins and Cracker Barrel. Not only did he provide parking, but he also provided large signs showing the store location and whether RV/Bus parking was available. We often thought about Mr. Evins and how thoughtful he had to be. His Cracker Barrel maps let you plan ahead for your stops, and on several occasions we were permitted to park overnight in an out-of-the way area. And, to put icing on the cake, his food was always good, service was excellent and it was a good place to relax.

Mr. Evins will be missed. Thank you, Danny.
