Summary:
RELIABILITY
People think RVs are pretty
reliable. We asked:
"How reliable are RVs
from your experience?" - on a scale of
5 = wonderful and 0 = unbelievably awful.
While the average answer was
3.14 - the results were very skewed towards
the wonderful end.
The people taking the poll were very
experienced - 16.19 average years experience
RVing! - 46% were very satisfied (scoring 4 or
5) and only 11% thought reliability was awful
(scoring 0 or 1).
We then asked: "How
reliable do you think RVs could or should be
considering their complexity?" - once
again, on a scale of 5 = wonderful and 0
= unbelievably awful.
Despite their complexity,
people think RVs could or should be very
reliable. The average answer was 4.32
with 94% of people thinking very
reliable (scoring 4 or 5).
MADE IN AMERICA
We asked: "Would
you trade your RV in for a Honda or Lexus RV
(if only they made RVs) ?"
76% said NO.
We asked: "Have you
owned a brand new RV?"
89% said YES.
WARRANTY
We then asked the 89% of the
people taking the poll who had owned a brand
new RV how the warranty was dealt with - once
again on a scale of 5 = wonderful and 0
= unbelievably awful.
While the average answer was
3.55 - once again, the results were very
skewed towards the wonderful end. A
surprising 62% were very satisfied (scoring 4
or 5) and only 11% thought their warranty
experiences were awful (scoring 0 or 1).
SERVICE FACILITIES
We asked: "From
your experience with any RV, what do you think
of RV service facilities?" - once again,
on a scale of 5 = wonderful and 0 =
unbelievably awful.
The average answer was 2.92 -
once again, the results were skewed towards
the wonderful end. 31% were very
satisfied (scoring 4 or 5) and only 12%
indicated their RV servicing experiences were
awful (scoring 0 or 1).
To summarize - generally
speaking, people think their RVs are reliable,
they believe the warranty was handled well and
- to a somewhat lesser extent - they're happy
with service facilities. Many of the
comments, however told tales of woe and many
gave cautionary examples of how things can
work out less than well.
You can see many of the
comments in the Roaming
Times' forum and in the information
sections (such as "Buying an RV"
and "RV Maintenance") listed below.
