Summary:
What would you do differently? Only
about 20% of people taking the poll rented an
RV before buying their first RV. About
80% however, think that renting an RV is a
good way to start for a new RVer.
Renting has many benefits for a new RVer,
for example:
"Renting gave us a chance to drive something "big". Made our decision to have two slides in our new motor home instead of one."
Another piece of advice about renting:
"Rent what you think you might be interesting in buying and go where you think you might go most often if you owned it."
Generally people enjoyed renting an
RV. There were some problems
however. This is not typical of the
problems perhaps, but it's cautionary:
"Be sure you know what is included in the contract. What you can use and what you cannot. My brother rented and RV and found out it was extra to use the awning and to attach a bike rack - after the fact, so they were charged more than the agreement stipulated because they used the awning."
More people who have taken the poll own a
Class 'A' RV (47%) than any other type.
The Class A is also the RV most people - 38%
- suggested that new RVers should start
their RVing experiences with. 17%
suggested starting with a Class C and 16% said
a trailer would be the best starting point.
An interesting point is that although 21%
of the people taking the poll owned a 5th
wheel, only 10% thought this was a good RV to
start RVing with - several people expressed
safety concerns in towing a 5th wheel.
Only 3% owned a pop-up but 10% thought this
was a good starting point. 10% owned a
travel trailer but 16% recommended starting
with this.
70% of the people taking the poll said they
had bought at least one new RV. Of these
only about 50% said they were satisfied with
warranty issues. The most common advice
was to make sure you buy from a dealer with a
good reputation. Some people said that
this point was so important that people should
make it there first concern even if it meant
paying a little more for the RV.
